SNOOKER - DAY THROUGH TO LAST 16 AT CHINA OPEN

Wales Sport
Author: Gary Baker

Ryan Day PONTYCYMMER'S Ryan Day (pictured) reached the last 16 of the China Open in Beijing on Tuesday with a great display of potting against Longton's Jamie Cope.

Day was 2-1 down at one stage but came good to draw level at the mid-session interval and then hammered home breaks of 68, 56 and 57, the last one after being 50-7 down, to land a 5-2 victory over the Englishman.

He now meets either Australian Neil Robertson or Northern Ireland's Gerard Greene in the next round.

Meanwhile, Mark Williams, Cwm's double world champion, must get past Romford's Mark King for a last 16 tie with John Higgins.

But one big winner was Flint's Ricky Walden who trounced Joe Perry 5-2 and started the match wtih a brilliant 140 break.
