About Us

Gary Baker - Editor

Gary Baker

Gary established Wales and West News and Sport in 1998 and has been covering news and sport issues across both sides of the Great Divide - the Severn Bridge - for the past decade.

He has worked for every regional newspaper in both Wales and the West Country and regularly writes for national newspapers such as the Daily and Sunday Express, News of the World and The Sun.

Gary has covered everything from the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, one of a handful of local sports writers there, to the 1999 Rugby World Cup - including the final - and more rugby matches and other sports events than you can think of.

Newswise, Gary has also written for a number of local, national and international newspapers, websites and magazines but sees walesandwest.com as the next generation for the media.

"We instantly update news and sport as it happens," says Gary. "That is why we passionately believe people deserve to read about the news and sport today, not tomorrow as with the old fashioned print media.

"Our mission statement is to be the best there is in this field, an independent news organisation that has no ties with big national media groups and, therefore, are not bound by in-house politics."

Gary will also be one of the few Welsh and West Country writers at next year's Beijing Olympic Games - and will be reporting for www.walesandwest.com from there every day.
